Road responsibilities and order
CBRM covers streets in the former towns of Glace Bay, New Waterford, Dominion, Louisbourg, North Sydney and Sydney Mines, the former City of Sydney and designated former-County roads. The Province maintains most other former-County roads.
Arterial and emergency routes are addressed first, then collectors, then residential streets when conditions permit. Strong weather, drifting, wet snow, daytime traffic or equipment trouble can delay work. A personal appointment does not change a plow route.

Sidewalks, hydrants and snow placement
CBRM clears designated sidewalks near schools, hospitals and commercial areas, not every sidewalk. The source reports approximately 1,000 lane-kilometres of road and 310 kilometres of sidewalk; these are municipal work-scope figures, not total island infrastructure.
Keep private snow off public roads and sidewalks. Residents helping clear hydrants should shovel from the sidewalk side and stay off the roadway. Place collection bags and bins back from the curb to reduce plow damage.

Winter parking restrictions
Restrictions apply December 15 through March 31. Vehicles must be off the street 1 am to 6 am, during snowfall and for two hours after it stops. Obstructing vehicles may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s cost.
The overnight restriction and storm restriction are separate. A midday snowfall can still require the vehicle to move even though it is outside the 1-to-6-am period.

Emergencies and damage
Medical and fire emergencies use 911, which can coordinate plows when needed. Routine plow questions or damage reports use 311 or Public Works. Provide the name and address for damage assessment.
Minor repairs are generally handled in spring according to weather and priority. CBRM does not repair private bins, shrubs, fences or mailboxes placed in the street right-of-way. Do not assume every damaged item qualifies.
