Read every sign

Read multiple signs on a post from top to bottom and follow arrows marking the affected area. Check nearby posts even if no sign stands beside the vehicle. A restriction with no hours is in effect all day, every day.

No Stopping means no stopping, parking or loading. No Parking allows only active loading or unloading while staying with the vehicle. Bus stops are reserved for Transit Cape Breton vehicles. Accessible spaces require the appropriate permit or plate.

Payment and time limits

Pay at stations using coins, card or tap, or use HotSpot. The posted space may have a two-hour or five-hour increment; use its sign or sticker rather than assuming every street has one time limit. Payment does not permit overstaying the purchased period.

Most listed violations have a $25 fine, rising to $61.60 after 60 days unpaid. An accessible-space offence without a permit is $100, rising to $136.60 after 60 days. The Motor Vehicle Act still applies outside paid hours.

Clearances and winter

The page lists minimum clearances of five metres from a crosswalk or hydrant, ten metres from a stop sign and 7.5 metres from a corner. Do not block driveways, sidewalks or fire lanes, or park opposite traffic.

From December 15 to March 31, keep off streets 1 am to 6 am, during snowfall and for two hours afterward. Obstruction can lead to towing as well as a fine. Report damaged signs or payment faults to 902-563-5091.
